Walking conditions:
Footpaths on the walk should all be in good condition.
However, some of the green lanes, and in particular Perryfield Lane and those
around Norwood End, become extremely wet and muddy during the winter. Fields may
also be ploughed up, usually in autumn or spring. There are several stiles to
get over around Lampetts.
Crossing the Dunmow Road (B184) can be dangerous as cars travel along this route
at great speed.
Country Code:
As you walk please follow the Country Code. Keep dogs on a lead
near livestock and give landowners no cause to regret having footpaths on their
land.
Keep safe, wear suitable clothing and footwear, take drinking water with you. If
you are unfamiliar with the area, carry an additional map with you, e.g.
Ordnance Survey Explorer 183: Chelmsford and the Rodings or contact Marcus Dain
for a copy of the Definitive Map – details below.
Car parking can be difficult in Fyfield. Queen Street is an option, or there is
parking by the village hall just off the Dunmow Road at Grid Reference TL 5707
0696. The No. 46 bus runs between Ongar High Street and Queen Street in Fyfield
three times a day.

the route of the Fyfield Country Walk and the text for this page. Fyfield has
some nineteen miles of footpaths and bridleways for your enjoyment, most of
which are passable throughout the year.
If you have the energy for more walking, you are welcome to look at the
Definitive Map which shows all these rights of way by contacting Marcus Dain on
