This beautiful piece of embroidery is truly a village affair, created during the Millennium year by the villagers of Fyfield, to celebrate 2000 years of Christianity.

From its conception – a twinkle in Mary Ellis’s eye – through the planning, fund-raising, sewing, obtaining the required faculty and storing – to Malcolm Bretton’s skillfully-crafted brackets, the Wall Hanging became a major part of our lives.

All villagers were invited to participate and the result was sixty wonderfully individual pieces of embroidery depicting homes, village organisations and features special to Fyfield.

This ‘key’ provides the legend – an insight into a little of the history of Fyfield and a snap shot of the homes and lives of some of the people living here at the beginning of the 21st Century.

We hope that you and those in generations to come will enjoy our labour of love.
